Want to Shoot Satan in the Face? (Mature Content 17+)

With each new entry in the Saints Row series, things get just a little bit more weird. Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell certainly does not shy away from that trend. Before we decided to play this, Pop asked if I was sure I wanna play it because it takes place in Hell. Well why not? I mean the whole premise is to end up shooting Satan in the face.

That's pretty gratifying.

The game is hilarious, and weird. I didn't play it for too long but I enjoyed the awkward noises that the undead made when you shot them. They also danced and ran away with crazy arms flapping about. It was a good time.

Kirby Is Cute And All But...Wat? (Mature Content 17+)

Very few times have we played a game on our show that we downright refused to ever play again. We have reached that point. I understand that you are probably curious as to why we would ever showcase something that brought zero enjoyment to the table, but we wanted to provide the public with a way out just in case you even thought about purchasing this title.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse seems attractive at a $40 price point alongside its given cuteness and colorfulness, but it is not for the impatient. This game is super frustrating. It seems that one could just create a stream of ribbon and have Kirby follow or even be able to move Kirby separate with the joystick.

That does not happen.

The controls are awkward and irritating. No matter how colorful or how amazing the music was in this game, I could not stomach playing more than an hour of it.

So instead of running out and buying this, take a look at our new series highlighting a bit of this adventure. This will be a short run, because there are better things to do then get mad at a pink ball of happiness. I refuse to hate Kirby, so I'm just going to stay far far away from this one.

Friday the 13th was a very exciting day in the Mom 'N Pop household as we received a couple of sweet treats. The New Nintendo 3DS XL released and both Pop and I received purchased one. Pop, being the Zelda fan that he is, bought the very limited Majora's Mask edition and it is gorgeous. Check out the unboxing video below.

If You Love The Walking Dead, Play This Game (Mature Content)

With the anticipated return of The Walking Dead for the mid-season premiere, Pop and I decided to sink our teeth, so to speak, into one of the newest games for next-gen, Dying Light. I have mentioned before that I, Mom, generally do not play any type of scary games, including anything with zombies. Zombies intrigue me for sure, which is why I enjoy watching and reading The Walking Dead. Yet for some reason, I just can't grasp the concept of confronting walkers in video game format.

I frighten easily.

After watching Pop work through the first bit of Dying Light, we have come to the conclusion that this is the game that Dead Island should have been. To read NGP's full review by Demo Destroyer click here.

It really is a perfect mixture of Mirror's Edge, Dead Island, and Skyrim (only because of the lock picking). Just so you know, in future episodes, I do take the reigns and kill some zombies. Man is it satisfying!

We Love FREE Games! Don't You?

If you aren't following us on Facebook, then perhaps you haven't read up on our most recent situation in the Mom 'N Pop Co-Op household. Let me, Mom, fill you in on the lovely episode that happened...

Our son, not even two years old yet, somehow managed to delete and reformat our entire Wii U system.He was only alone for a few minutes and by some evil miracle worked his way through multiple confirmation screens to wreak havoc on our day and life. 

Good bye Zelda progress.

Goodbye happiness.

It's okay though because Mom 'N Pop have plenty of other things to play in the meantime while we catch up with our Wii U titles. 

So we decided to play a game that will be free for Playstation Plus members this month called Transistor. To start, since we can't download it for free yet, we decided to play our PC copy. Let me tell you, this game is amazing. It is by the creators of Bastion, which is known for its artistic and musical prowess. 

Transistor is no different when it comes to a beautifully crafted game. Mixing strategy with hack & slash, it is no wonder why this game is so attractive.

The Best $10 We've Ever Spent (Mature Content 17+)

If there is one thing you have probably noticed about Pop and I, mostly me, is that we are HUGE Nintendo fans. I think Pop is more of a Microsoft guy in general, but this past year, Nintendo has been the company to offer the type of games we enjoy playing on a regular basis.

Recently, there was a Nintendo Direct, which finally announced the release of the NEW 3DS XL for the United States. Alongside that excitement, not to mention the mic drop from Nintendo surprising us with the Majora's Mask NEW 3DS XL, the release of popular Wii titles for Wii U owners to download was announced. Amongst these is one of my favorites, Super Mario Galaxy 2, which for a limited time was only $10.

You can't really pass that up.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a gorgeous game that offers the nostalgia of Super Mario 64 with a "out of this world" (see what I did there?) feel. 

Even though it isn't fresh off the boat, it is still a super fun game to play through. Especially when you are two adults who discuss adult things whilst collecting colorful star bits and adventuring atop adorable Yoshi.

Why We Hate Minecraft (17+ Mature Content)

There comes a point in time in a gamer's life where you stoop to a level that you never thought you would...Mom 'N Pop Co-Op reached that point the other day when we popped in Minecraft. It isn't as if we don't understand the hype behind this "literally on every flipping platform" low-bit game. It's a world where you get to waste time collecting, building, creating....eating...pork.

Realistically though, in a grown-up world of a plethora of games and not a whole lot of time, Minecraft just isn't appealing. I am aware that a majority of the people that play this game are in the younger generation, and that makes sense, but for me...

Where are the JRPGS with dough-eyed hotties? I'd rather spend the little time I have devoting myself to that.

However, we wanted to appeal to the masses so we decided to be "trendy." Needless to say this is a one-shot, so we hope you enjoy Pop's horrible attempt at pleasing people. Find the "D" in this Mysterious Game

So, Pop and I decided to take on something outside the cute co-op games we typically bring to the table. Dark Dreams Don't Die (Xbox One) is kind of like a Telltale Games "point and click" adventure. Along with sitting through pages of dialogue, you tell your character what to interact with and choose what to say to other characters. It is most definitely a story-driven title and you will get sucked in quickly because you are investigating your wife's death...and well...don't you wanna solve that???

D4, as they call it for short, offers a graphic novel approach with the cell-shaded art. Honestly, it is very much like manga as it provides all the obscurity you would expect from the east. These types of weird quirks are exactly what I love, considering I drool over anything coming out of Japan. I don't think this is the time or place to get into my love for certain characters from certain anime with certain bodies that don't exist in real life.

Anywho...

How to Get Your "Bae" to Play Video Games

It has been a couple weeks since Pop and I have started a new series, and we couldn't be more excited to finally have the time to do so! The holidays always interrupt everyone's extracurriculars and we are no different! But alas, some new games have released and we are going to do our best to include some of the most popular on our show this year.

People who prefer to sit alongside a pal or two and play through a game are always curious about the best "co-op" game. Depending on the genre, there are a handful of fabulous games. However, the biggest reason people want to play co-op is to draw their significant other in the gaming world. Am I wrong? I didn't think so.

For this reason, games like Little Big Planet, hold a superior appeal over maybe Diablo III or any of the Borderlands games. It's kind of like a Super Mario Bros. game in the aspect of platforming, but offers an array of puzzles and a plethora of customizable...well everything. People can build their own levels and post them online for other people to play, which is great since user-created content has become a driving force in the gaming world.

Let's not forget Sackboy:

He's so damn cute.

Sackboy is the only reason you need to convince your other half to play video games with you. He is adorable, silly, and awesome.

With Little Big Planet 3 they introduced even more cute "popits" and all of them have a high cuddle-factor in my opinion. Pop and I haven't gotten a chance to play with the new ones quite yet, but hopefully that will come in time.

Best Puzzle Game this Holiday Season

By now, you are probably deducing that Pop and I are a fan of Nintendo with all the Wii U games we have posted about; however, Nintendo has had a lot to offer this year and we have to highlight that! This week we delighted ourselves in the Super Mario 3D World spin-off game: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

A puzzle game at heart, this cute game offers up a quick yet somewhat perplexing adventure. It basically follows the same level structure as the Toad levels in Super Mario 3D World, but isn't nearly as simple. On top of that, each level has a side quest which until you finish the level once, you have no idea what it is. Completionists will find themselves running through the levels a couple times to get everything.

I personally love games like this, and if it weren't for every other game that has released this season, plus a somewhat steep price point of $40, I might pick it up. If it goes on sale for $30 (highly doubtable anytime soon) then I may have to get it.

The Best Way to Play Pokemon

So another year goes by and yet another Pokemon releases into the grubby hands of children worldwide. By children, I mean fully-grown adults such as you and I. Now after Pokemon X & Y introduced a new generation of graphics and Pokemon, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire may not hold the same appeal.

Let's face it, these games are literally all the same, but we love them, right?

Yet, we crave a sense of excitement that won't leave us falling asleep in the midst of in-bed-power-leveling, only to wake up from the clunk of our 3DS crashing on our face. It happens to me, Mom, constantly because the only time I have to play my DS is when I'm in bed exhausted from being the busiest mother in the world.

Anyway...

Luckily for all you Poke-peeps, Pop has decided to up the excitement by taking on Omega Ruby as a Nuzlocke challenge. Now, if you haven't heard of this, it is okay, because I didn't know anything about it until Pop told me. Basically, there are a set of rules you have to follow and these are the ones Pop is specifically using:

• Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
• The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each new route. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances.
• Duplicate Clause - Player is not allowed to catch the same Pokemon. 
• Player must nickname all of their Pokémon.
• Black out/white out is considered to be "game over".
• Traded Pokémon, mystery gifts, etc., are prohibited.
• Battle style switched to "set", leaving the player unable to switch out.
• Exp. Share set to OFF (unless told otherwise in comments)

The Best Smash Bros. Game Yet

While everyone else who is a fellow geek in our city was enjoying the Grand Rapids Comic Con, Pop and I (Mom) were tucked away at home hacking away our lungs. As much as we would have liked to join in on the fun, our toddler was also very sick, and so we decided to be boring. However, in the midst of this disappointment, we got to enjoy our newest purchases.

This is just from the 11/21 release. We also have a plethora of new games from 11/18

Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is everything we could have asked for...and more. The GameCube controller functionality was a must, and we are so glad they decided to take this route because it makes fighting fluid and natural. The levels are amazing, the graphics gorgeous...just go freaking buy it already. AND if you don't have a Wii U...now is the time...seriously.

 I have never really been that talented in the arena of Smash Bros. games; however, I do find so much joy in playing it. We have yet to do anything with the Amiibos other than register them to our names (Pop's is Link and mine is Yoshi), but we are excited to level them up. It Happened: Mario Kart Just Got Cooler

Downloadable content is pretty much a given with nearly every game that releases, so it comes to no one's surprise that Mario Kart 8 has sported its own season pass. The nice thing about this season pass is that it is only $12 and it comes with a decent amount of content. Releasing in two packs, people who purchase the season pass will get a total of:

• 16 tracks
• 8 Cars
• 6 characters

Pop and I obviously got the season pass and the first pack does not disappoint because it includes our most favorite character, Link. In line with the Zelda theme, there is a Hyrule Cup Grand Prix, which has a pretty epic track.

Why We Still Love Halo the Most

Halo is probably the most iconic FPS that ever has existed. I don't care how many Call of Duty's come out...Halo will still hold a special place in my (Mom) heart. Maybe it is because I spent a majority of my early college days on a 13-inch tube-tv playing Halo 2 online, and kicking ass at that. Or maybe it is because I survived many a midnight release of each installment of the series. PERHAPS it is just because the game has that familiar feeling.

When you start up any Halo game, and hear that nostalgic music, you almost choke up a bit. Wait...you don't? Okay, I might just be a super weirdo, but that's okay.

Halo: Master Chief Collection provides an epic bundle for Xbox One owners, and it totally delivers. Although right now servers are a little jacked up, the graphical upgrade more than makes up for it.

We aren't going to do a full series of this game, but we wanted to at least play online to show you guys some of the upgrades this collection provides. I realized through this endeavor that since I haven't played Halo in a REALLY long time, I suck...like really suck. So I'm going to practice now that I know that I have literally lost any skill I had once acquired in my teen years.

Not Just Another Lego Game

I know, I know! Another Lego game right? But here's the thing....they are so much fun and you know it! Even though it is the third game in the series, Lego Batman 3 still holds the appeal that every other Lego game holds. I have a ton of Lego games, but no matter how many times I go through frustrating puzzles (that I wonder how kids seem to beat so quickly), I can't help but form anime eyes when they announce a new one.

In fact, they could pretty much make Lego game off of any of my favorite TV shows and it would probably go a little something like this:

I don't know if anyone else sympathizes with my obsession over Lego games and honestly I don't really care. 

But I digress!!

Another Reason to Buy a Wii U

I gotta be honest with ya folks...If you aren't a proud owner of a Wii U yet, today may be the day that you are pushed over that edge. Why, you ask? One name:

BAYONETTA 2

This game is a sequel to the fan hit that released on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, but is ONLY available on the Nintendo Wii U console. With the purchase of Bayonetta 2, you are getting a spectacular deal, as it includes the original as well.

As a female, and one who is all about empowering women, you would think this type of game may push me away, but let me tell you a few reasons why I'm in love with this woman (real name Cereza) protagonist.

• She draws power from her hair...HER HAIR!
• She has guns installed into her heels (while duel-wielding in her hands) and can still strut her stuff.
• She's intelligent.
• She's hot!

I'm not one for objectifying women, but it isn't as if Bayonetta is being portrayed as an un-intelligent character whose sole purpose is sex. She shows that sexiness can exist alongside being a general bad-ass. It is one of the many reasons I love the new Tomb Raider as well.

Besides having a great character, this game looks amazing!

Why We Love Crappy 8-Bit Games

Have you ever woken up and just felt like you wanted to stop being an adult? You know what I'm talking about. Those days where all the stresses of being a responsible human being just gets to a point where you want to jump in a DeLorean and return to a time where Friday nights meant sitting in front of your tube TV playing your favorite 8 or 16-bit console until the wee hours of the morning.

I miss that excitement from going to Blockbuster to rent a new game, and a lot of the times those games you rented, looking back now, were pretty horrible. Yet, at that moment in time, it was exciting, because it was your freedom, your break from life.

This past week has been one of those weeks where Pop and I (Mom...duh!) wished to return to a simpler time, so we thought, "How can we do that?" 

I had been aching to play Smash TV, one of my favorite NES games (don't ask me why), and we realized it was on the Midway Arcade Origins compilation. Obviously, there are more games on this compilation, and after many hours of exploring, we have chosen a few favorites. Some of them are just hilarious to play, and interestingly enough, these games offered the most nostalgia because of those memories of renting a game and being sorely disappointed at how lame it was.

This Season's Most Twisted Horror Game: Halloween Gaming with The Evil Within

I (Mom) am not one for gory horror games so when Pop suggested to play The Evil Within, I was immediately fighting the idea of it. There is something about sinister games that put me in a sense of overwhelming fear. In the spirit of the season and because I knew the entertainment from me being ridiculously frightened and grossed out would be heightened, I complied with the idea.

Now, I don't touch this game at all. I refuse to. BioShock creeps me out enough as it is. However, I did promise to watch Pop play it, and it has been torture so far. The entire time I sit there, even if I appear calm, I am internally writhing. So if you like the type of games that make your stomach turn, tune into our newest Halloween series, The Evil Within.

The Best Vampire Series of All Time: Halloween Gaming with Castlevania

Before Buffy, True Blood, Vampire Diaries, and every other Vampire themed anything that has a strong fan following, there was this awesome game series called Castlevania. Being a classic go-to, Pop and I (Mom), couldn't pass up the chance to include it on our Halloween gaming series.

Now, as much as I love the story behind the Castlevania series, I have never been able to find myself past 20 minutes of game-play. Reason being: it is purty darn hard. That is why, in this series, Pop will be taking the wheel, because otherwise all the audio in our videos would consist of me crying endlessly due to overwhelming frustration. Don't worry though, I offer moral support, plenty of singing, and commentary.

Welcome to Rapture! Halloween Gaming with BioShock

Fall is most definitely my (Mom) favorite time of the year. Cool crisp air, apple cider, acceptance of hoodies back into the wardrobe, crackling fires, and pumpkin flavored everything. On top of that, it carries the funnest day of the year, Halloween. We all celebrate Halloween in different ways. Some of us take our kids trick-or treating. Others...sit at home and watch horror movies while shoveling candy corn down their throats. Most of us probably drink.

There usually is a common theme to Halloween though, and that is fear. So Pop and I decided we would utilize the month of October to play some frightening games.  First on the list is BioShock.

While it isn't the most creepy game out there, it hold its own in the world of eeriness. I for one have a hard time handling scary games so it kind of is a big deal to me. Through this adventure, you will mostly likely laugh at how scared I get, but if it weren't for sudden desire to crap my pants, you wouldn't be entertained would you?
