Bernthal's Punisher Gets Series Order

MoneyLaunderer's dream just came true! Following the wildly successful second season of Netflix and Marvel's Daredevil series, Jon Berenthal will be reprising his role as The Punisher in his own spin-off series as originally reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Steve Lightfoot (writer and executive producer on one of my favorite shows of 2104, Hannibal) will serve as show runner for the series as well as pen the first two episodes.

"For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn't be more excited to dive into his world" Lightfoot states. "After watching Jon's performance in Marvel's Daredevil I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and process the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own."

Netflix and Marvel clearly have a strategic plan in motion, with five separate series currently in different stages of production. Although it hasn't been confirmed at this point, don't be surprised if The Punisher also makes an appearance in 2017 with The Defenders!

Marvel's The Defenders To Begin Shooting

It's no secret that the Marvel/Netfilx team-up has been killing it with their gritty take on the hero's of Hell's Kitchen. Daredevil and Jessica Jones have both been a tremendous success for the studio and viewers alike and details are finally emerging on that promised The Defenders series!

While no solid dates have been announced, Independent.co.uk reports that the series is set to begin shooting at the end of the year, which is incredible news considering we still have Luke Cage, Iron Fist and a second season of Jessica Jones on the way!

Daredevil star, Charlie Cox, opened up briefly on the topic this past weekend during a Netflix event in Paris. 

"What we do know is at the end of this year we're going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much apart of that foursome. I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I'm very excited to see how those world's combine ... and interested to see tonally how those shows become one ... In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they'll do some of that in The Defenders. Or maybe they won't."

Although it seems the actors are still in the dark regarding what their role as a team (as well as the thereat they'll face) will be, it's great to see things moving along for a potential 2017 debut!

S.H.I.E.L.D. Goes Secret Warriors

For those paying attention last season, Agent "Skye" on ABC's hit show Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was subtly revealed to be Daisy (aka. Quake) Johnson who first made her appearance in the pages of Secret War #2 back in 2004 as the daughter of super-villain Mister Hyde (which is more of a sleeper that may or may not have been apparent to even die hard fans, portrayed by Kyle MacLauchlan). 

Marvel debuted Quake's new look for Season 3 this afternoon, and by the sound of things to come, Agent Coulson & Simmons fate may be tied to the Secret Warriors mythos as well. 

I for one, am all for it. Secret Warriors was one of my favorite books during it's tenure and the thought of these characters becoming a part of the Marvel "cinematic" universe is truly exciting. There has never been a better time to be a geek.

Game of Thrones Casts Max von Sydow! 

The critically acclaimed HBO drama, Game of Thrones, has once again proven it's superiority with it's latest casting announcement of veteran actor, Max von Sydow!

According to Entertainment Weekly, the famed performer, whose career spans dozens of feature films — from The Exorcist to Minority Report to the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens (please be Boba Fett, please be Boba Fett) — has signed on for Season 6 as the Three-Eyed Raven! 

Briefly featured in the Season 4 finale, the Three-Eyed Raven is the mystical tutor of young Bran Stark and a character that we currently know very little about ... 

This casting announcement also comes hot on the heels of another famed European actor joining the Season 6 cast, Ian McShane (Deadwood), although there has been no word from the tight lipped GoT camp regarding who he'll be portraying ...

This Christmas, Sherlock Goes Back To His Roots

Steven Moffatt's modern day telling of Sherlock Holmes has been a smash hit and among one of the most talked about BBC series in the history of the network featuring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role alongside Martin Freeman's Watson.

However, this years upcoming Christmas special will bring Holmes and Watson back to their roots with a story told in the Victorian era.

Moffatt told the crowd at Comic Con this week that "It's still the same sense of humor, it's still very much the show you  know ... but it's in the 'correct' era, which was unbelievably thrilling." Moffatt also brought along a brief scene, which debuted at Comic Con, serving as a trailer for the holiday special.


If you haven't immersed yourself in Sherlock, do yourself a favor and fire up the first three seasons. All are only three episodes long (alongside an occasional special) and are worth every bit of your time.

Welcome Back, Frank

It's been officially announced that Punisher, AKA Frank Castle, will be joining season 2 of Daredevil.  He will be portrayed by Jon Bernthal.  

Bernthal is best known for playing Shane on The Walking Dead, as well as appearing in movies like The Wolf of Wall Street and Fury.  

The Punisher has previously been portrayed in movies by Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson. 

Season 2 of Daredevil is set to premier in 2016 exclusively on Netflix.

Will We Get Our Lady Stoneheart? (SPOILERS)

MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SEASON 5 OF GAME OF THRONES AND CORRESPONDING NOVELS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Since the conclusion of Season 4, Game of Thrones fans have been left wondering if Lady Stoneheart would eventually make her appearance in the critically acclaimed HBO series, or be omitted from the television adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy epic.

With only two episodes left this season, the thought of introducing the character seemed unlikely … that is, until the season finale title was revealed. To fans of the series, episode names and finale titles are incredibly important when it comes to deciphering the context of each episode and can be quite revealing. Especially to those who have read the novels and have somewhat of a grasp as to what may be coming down the pipeline.

The Season 5 finale, entitled “Mother’s Mercy," will debut June 14th at 9pm EST on HBO, and although the title could hold multiple meanings, I, like many others, am holding out hope. Some could argue that the episode title simply refers to the option presented to the currently imprisoned Cersei Lannister, where she ultimately throws herself to the “mercy” of the gods to receive whatever punishment they see fit. Which (SPOILER), in this particular case, is walking through the streets of King’s Landing completely nude; her shame on display for all to see.

However, readers who pay close attention may notice that “Mother Mercy” is also an alias given to Lady Stoneheart, (SPOILER) the reincarnated zombified Catelyn Stark, in the appendix within the pages of A Feast For Crows. So, the question remains … will we get our Lady Stoneheart?

Daredevil Back For A Second Season!

Daredevil has been officially renewed for a second season! Originally, Marvel had only planned single seasons for the their Netflix shows before the Defenders team up miniseries. With Daredevil being such a huge success, it's no surprise they've altered their plan. The second season will debut next year exclusive to Netflix, obviously. 

Later this year will see the introduction of Jessica Jones in her own series as well as Luke Cage and Iron Fist later on down the line. 

The second season will have new show runners, Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez. Both were writers and heavily involved for Daredevil's first season.

Ms. Marvel Miniseries!

Rumor has it that Marvel and ABC are developing a Ms. Marvel miniseries to air next year while Agents of Shield is on its winter hiatus. 

The show would be produced by John Ridley, who currently produces the show American Crime. He also won a Best Screenplay Oscar for 12 Years A Slave. 

The current Ms. Marvel  (Kamala Khan) is Marvel's first Muslim character to headline her own comic series. Her abilities include shapeshifting and a healing factor. 

Nothing has been confirmed, but stay tuned for any updates!

The Daily Show Announces It's New Host!

The wait is over and we now know who is taking over hosting the The Daily Show!  Trevor Noah, who joined the show last year as a contributor, will take over by the end of 2015.

Jon Stewart had this to say for his successor "I'm thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He's a tremendous comic and talent that we've loved working with... In fact, I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!"

Jon Stewart took over The Daily Show from Craig Kilborn in 1999.  No date has been set for Trevor Noah to officially debut as the host.

Return Of The X-Files!

It's official, The X-Files is coming back! FOX has confirmed they're bringing back Mulder and Scully for a six episode "event".  Chris Carter (creator and executive producer) is also back and says of the return "I think of it as a 13 year commercial break". 

Production is set to begin this summer, but there's no word on when the episodes will air. FOX seems to be getting into the business of reviving old hits, they also recently brought back 24 for a twelve episode run.  

This all raises some questions. If the six episodes are a hit, will there be more seasons? Another movie? Will FOX bring back Almost Human?!

Powers: PlayStation's First TV Show

Every major media group not associated with cable TV is developing and releasing its own series. Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO GO, Hulu, and now PlayStation. Powers is a show based on the comic book series created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. They are also producing the show which is a police procedural about two homicide detectives with the Powers Division. In the world of Powers superheroes are real and some are good and some are psychopathic murderers. That's where detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim show up at the crime scene and do what they do best.

Christian Walker is played by Sharlto Copley who is best know for starring in all of the Neill Blomkamp movies (District 9, Elysium, and Chappie) as well as Disney's Maleficent. Also of note on the cast is stand-up comic genius Eddie Izzard. Playing some very serious roles lately (including a brief stint on the show Hannibal) he plays the biggest of all evil psychopaths, Wolfe who devours others in the most bloody and disgusting ways.


I had a chance to watch the show and I thought it was amazing. Bendis has an ability to create characters who feel real and grounded even when they are flying around the screen or web-slinging on page (he is most know for penning Ultimate Spider-Man). That comic translates perfectly into television form. The budget here seems substantial as well. Although most of the superhero action is seen form a distance the story stays grounded with how having superheroes around effects society as a whole. It takes the police procedural formula, which has been repeated time and time again on TV, and adds superpowers into the mix. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys shows like Heroes or NCIS.

The first three episodes in the series can now be seen on your PlayStation device (Vita, PS3, and PS4) if you are a PlayStation Plus member. You can also watch it online (here) but it still requires you to have a PlayStation Plus membership. With a 12 month membership setting you back $49.99 that's still a lot cheaper than Netflix. Hopefully Sony takes the same route as all the other big-name content providers and continues to put out great shows like Powers.

Game of Thrones ... Licensed to Kill!

George R. R. Martin, author of the Game of Thrones books, is preparing fans for some unexpected deaths in the show. Even characters who haven't died in the books aren't safe. Martin spoke at the Writers Guild West Awards that Game of Thrones executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are taking EVEN MORE creative liberties. 

"People are going to die who don't die in the books, so even book readers are going to be unhappy," says Martin. "Everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. are even bloodier than I am."

This shouldn't be entirely surprising seeing as how characters such as Strong Belwas and Arianne Martell were cut out of the show altogether.

Daredevil Trailer Debuts!

As we all anxiously await the next cinematic installments to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers : Age Of Ultron and Ant-Man, Netflix and Marvel come to the rescue debuting the trailer for their 13 episode Daredevil series set to launch on April 10!

Taking place in the same universe as the cinematic feature films and in true Netflix fashion, all 13 episodes will release simultaneously for our binge watching pleasure! Subsequent series featuring Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist are also currently in the works for Netflix distribution, with a team Defenders series slated to bring them all together in true Avengers fashion following each heroes solo ventures!

Netflix has more than proven its quality and success in the form of House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, and I have no fear that Daredevil will more than live up to expectations, and hopefully bury all memories of Ben Affleck's 2003s take on the character.

Oh, the (In)humanity!

The Weekly Pull is closing out 2014 with a bang! This is a big one folks, so be warned : if you haven't seen the second season Winter Finale to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which aired on December 9, you're in store for some massive spoilers and a big eye opener surrounding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As Demo Destroyer can attest, I've been spouting my theories regarding the direction Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has been taking this season, and more specifically the implications it will have on Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's no secret that a large portion of this second season has focused on the mystery surrounding Director Coulson's memory mapping and if you've followed my previous posts and have a keen eye, you may have noticed that the symbols Coulson is carving in the image above closely match the pattern seen within the logo of Marvel's Inhuman title ... and that's just the beginning.

If you're not familiar with the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe (pre-Guardians of the Galaxy), the ending scene of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Winter Finale may have had you scratching your head. The Obelisk contained a blue crystal that released an airborne contaminant that turned Reya, Skye and Tripp to stone? What? Let's take a step back ...

At the beginning of the Kree-Skrull War, millions of years ago, the alien Kree race established a station on the planet Uranus, a strategic position between the Kree and Skrull empires. Through their work at this station, they discovered that sentient life on nearby Earth had genetic potential invested in it by the alien Celestials. Intrigued, the Kree began to experiment on Earth's then primitive Homo sapiens to produce the genetically advanced Inhuman race. Their goal was twofold - to investigate possible ways of circumventing their own evolutionary stagnation, and to create a powerful race of soldiers for use against the Skrulls. These test subjects, the Inhumans, went on to form a society of their own, which thrived in seclusion from the rest of humanity and developed advanced technology. Experiments with the mutagenic Terrigen Mist (a process known as Terrigenesis) gave them various powers, but caused lasting genetic damage and deformities. (Source)

So where do the Kree fall into this storyline you ask? Remember the blue alien that Coulson and Bill Paxton's Agent Garrett stumbled upon when searching for the answers to Coulson's survival? Kree.

Now that the puzzle pieces are starting to fit together, let’s recap. We now know that the Obelisk contains a Terrigen Crystal, which released Terrigen Mist on Skye and company. We got a brief flash of Reya’s more mutant-esque transformation (hence the whole conversation between Skye and her father regarding his love for her even if she were to change) as well as the seemingly unaltered Skye. But don’t let that fool you. Not all transformations are physical. Both the leader of the Inhumans, Black Bolt, and his queen, Medusa, have no physical abnormalities. Plus, if you're an avid fan of the Marvel Universe, you may have also discovered the deeper reveal as well during the brief interaction where Skye's father calls her by her birth name, confirming that Agent Skye is actually an established Marvel Universe character, Daisy "Quake" Johnson.

Marvel is really going for the long con here, as the announced cinematic feature featuring the Inhumas isn’t set to arrive in theatres until 2018. Will Skye and company make an appearance? Or will the focus turn more toward the aforementioned Kree-Skrull War? I for one would love to see a massive origin story depicting the war and the impact this genetic testing has had on the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (i.e. Rocket Raccoon) tieing the whole thing together.  With my previously posted theory regarding Vin Diesel’s role also remaining intact, I may just be on the right path …

On a brief side note, it's also extremely important not to confuse Inhumans with Mutants. Partially from a fanboy perspective, but more importantly from the Marvel Cinematic perspective where Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch come into play. In last weeks issue of Axis : The New World Disorder, one of the most talked about moments was the death of Carnage (link), but for me, the real secret was buried in the background. There is a point where, in an inverted rage, the Scarlet Witch casts a Chaos Curse on her bloodline as a means to punish her brother, Pietro Maximoff (aka Quicksilver), for siding with thier father Eric Lensher (aka Magneto) against her. However, the spell has no effect on either target revealing that after all these years, Magneto has been a pawn in someone else's game ... a strongly hinted Inhuman game, which may just hold the cinematic key to Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch appearing in both X-Men : Days of Future Past and Avengers : Age of Ultron franchises.

Star Wars Rebels: First Impression

Today is my birthday and I am posting on a topic that I love, Star Wars!

I knew that Star Wars Rebels was going to be good before it started because it was from the creators of Star Wars The Clone Wars, but I didn’t know it was going to be freaking awesome! Just a warning if you haven’t seen the first episode/movie for Star Wars Rebels then there may be some SPOILERS in this post.

Here is the short plot summary for Star Wars Rebels and the characters provided from starwars.com :

“Set between the events of Star Wars Episodes III and IV, the Star Wars Rebels story unfolds during a dark time when the evil Galactic Empire is tightening its grip of power on the galaxy. Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet and are ruining the lives of its people. The motley but clever crew of the starship Ghost – cowboy Jedi Kanan, ace pilot Hera, street-smart teenager Ezra, the “muscle” Zeb, warrior firebrand Sabine, and grumpy old astromech droid Chopper – will face threatening new villains, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.”

I like that they are going deeper into the events between Episodes III and IV, but I would also like to see Starkiller from the blockbuster videogame series, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, show up in the series. Starkiller was a big part of the start of the Rebellion and would only be proper to fit him in.

Overall, I am truly excited for the rest of the season. I hope we get to see some more familiar faces (you do). If you haven’t watched it the second episode is available on the Watch Disney XD app with a few surprise guests. Also ABC will be airing ‘Spark of the Rebellion’ again with an extra scene featuring Darth Vader and voiced by none other than James Earl Jones! It will be aired on Sunday, October 26 at 7pm EST. I will be watching it again for that extra scene and because it was truly amazing. Disney is doing an excellent job so far with this series and is giving me a peace of mind that Episode VII will be great.

If you haven't watched Star Wars The Clone Wars, you absolutely need to. That series is probably the best thing that came from LucasFilm since the Original Trilogy. All the seasons are available on Netflix including the unaired Season 6. Don't be a whiny Sith and just do it!

NYCC: Guardians of the Galaxy Animated Series

As the New York Comic Con hit its mid-way point the Marvel television panel laid out their plans of of how they are going to dominate your DVR in 2015. A large chunk of the content out of this panel was Disney XD related in which they showed what's coming up for Avengers Assemble, Ultimate Spider-Man, and even showing a full episode of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. By far the highlight of their panel was the reveal that coming in 2015 The Guardians of the Galaxy will be getting their own animated show on Disney XD. It also looks like in true Marvel form they will introduce the eccentric Guardians cast in another one of their titles before they debut in their own show (Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. in this case). Marvel did show off some test footage during the panel that shows Rocket Raccoon in action. Top 5 Disney Cartoons That Should Be Rebooted

There are a lot of cartoons getting reboots lately like: My Little Pony, Care Bears, Pound Puppies, and Strawberry Shortcake. I would like to see Disney reboot some of my favorite childhood Disney cartoons for my kids to enjoy. Here is my top 5 Disney cartoons that should be rebooted.

5. Adventures of the Gummi Bears (1985-1991) Spanning 6 seasons, the Gummi Bears bounced here, there, and everywhere.

4. Tale Spin (1990-1991) This short lived 'spin-off' series featured Baloo and other characters from the Jungle Book.

3. Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers (1989–1990) Disney's favorite chipmunks team up with two mice, Gadget and Monterey Jack and a fly, Zipper for some wholesome detective work and crime fighting. This series was also short lived to 3 seasons. I love how Chip and Dale are dressed similar to Indiana Jones and Magnum P.I. Disney has announced a new Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers for 2016, but that's about it.

 

2. Darkwing Duck (1991-1992) "Let's get dangerous!" This was very close to being my number 1. Also only 3 seasons to this amazing series and voiced by one of the greatest voice actors, Jim Cummings. Darkwing Duck, Batman-esque superhero, who "fights" crime and gets assistance from his daughter and pilot Launchpad McQuack. And let's not forget Gizmoduck, Darkwing saw him as a rival since he was popular and a well-liked hero.

1. DuckTales (1987-1990) "Woo Hoo!"  Finally, I think that this is the show for Disney to reboot. This show followed the family of Donald Duck: his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie and his uncle, Scrooge McDuck. It follows the many adventures of the boys in the town of Duckburg. Disney must of had a thing for running it's shows for 3 seasons, this was also one of them. This show had a movie, DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp and a spin-off, Darkwing Duck!
