Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

The Marvel Collector Corps has finally launched, and we here at New Geek Protocol have our hands on the very first box featuring none other than Earth’s Mightiest, the Avengers! Back in February, we broke the news that Marvel and Funko had teamed up to bring us, the fans, 100% completely exclusive collectibles t-shirts and accessories valued at over $50 through a bi-monthly shipping service and they did not disappoint!

When my box arrived, there was no hiding the excitement for what was in store. A Golden Age Captain America graded the top of the box with Avengers and Marvel markings screaming around the outer edges. The inside flap contained great moments in Marvel Comics history, which features the likes of The Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Black Widow and more!

Upon opening the top flap, the first two pieces of swag greeted me in the form of a Marvel Collector’s Corps Ultron patch and Captain America pin.

Lifting the inner flap where the patch and pin were positioned, the Exclusive Hulkbuster Pop! Vinyl figure was displayed, and this thing is HUGE. Standing at a whopping 6” (compared to the standard 3 ¾” figured) this beauty is sure to be a “must have” for any Iron Man fan!

Nestled to the right-hand side of the Hulkbuster, was an Avengers : Age of Ultron Dorbz Vinyl figure featuring the iconic villain himself!

With the vinyl figures (gently!) removed from the box, an exclusive Variant Edition of Guardians Team-Up #1 was tucked underneath …

Alongside One of Four unique Avengers vs. Ultron T-shirts to round out the box! My randomly selected shirt featured Thor, but Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk variations have also been received by other Corps members!

The Weekly Pull : Marvel Collector Corps

Back when we first began New Geek Protocol, one of our monthly staples was to review a monthly subscription box service. Arcade Block, Loot Crate and Nerd Block services all made appearances over the course of the year, but each month was hit or miss for our team and ultimately fell short of earning our hard earned cash for a renewal.

However, a new subscription service contender has entered the ring this week as Funko and Marvel have collaborated to bring us Marvel Collector Corps. Featuring 100% completely exclusive collectables, t-shirts and accessories, each box will focus on a current event taking place in the Marvel Universe beginning with Avengers : Age Of Ultron in this bi-monthly service.

The debut box is scheduled to ship April 2015, and promises an exclusive 6" Hulkbuster Iron Man Pop! Vinyl collectable only available through Marvel Collector Corps! Additionally, one of four exclusive t-shirt designs, an additional vinyl collectable and two premium accessories are also listed as the swag to expect representing over a $50 value.

The second box, scheduled for June 2015, will feature an Ant-Man theme and for my money is the most promising and exciting subscription service to date. Two subscription levels are available for purchase, Founder and Collector, with the Founder level promising an exclusive figure on the anniversary of your subscription when a year (six boxes) are paid in full up front.

Nerd Block - November 2014

Pretty excited for this weekend’s Grand Rapids Comic Con. Lots of cool people to meet and see. I’ll be going for all three days. There will be plenty of posts about it following the event. For this week’s post I will be writing about this month’s Nerd Block.

I regret to say that this is my last Nerd Block for a while. They haven’t been super exciting for me besides the occasional POP figure and very minimal amount of Star Wars items. I only kept it around for another month because I knew there would be a Boba Fett themed item and Boba is my main man so I couldn’t give up yet.

This month’s block wasn’t too shabby, there wasn’t one thing I didn’t like.

1. Iron Man Coffee Mug (my wife has an infatuation with Iron Man so this mug is all hers)

2. Super Mario Bros. Boo Slap Watch

3. Deadpool - King of Chimichangas T-shirt

4. Boba Fett Fan Wrap for my car (wish it would have been more than just a sticker for my car)

And…

5. The Featured Item of the Month - Batman plush (Adaaaaam Weeeesssst!!!)

Like I said not too shabby, definitely a step up from previous months. If you are still interested in Nerd Block please sign up it is a great service, just didn’t fit for me. Next month should be great as well, every subscriber is guaranteed an autographed Willow print from either Warwick Davis or Val Kilmer! That’s pretty exciting, but I am going to resist. Now if it were an autographed pic of Wicket or semi-decent looking Batman then I’d be all in.

Nerd Block October 2014

This month’s Nerd Block has been by far the best one that I’ve had. Nerd Block is a monthly subscription box service similar to Loot Crate and Booty Bin. Nerd Block offers several options at different prices: Classic (your everyday nerd assortments), Arcade (video game themed), Horror (horror themed, duh), and Junior (Boys or Girls, the kids stuff). They range from $13.99-$19.99 per month plus shipping and handling, they come from Canada so it’s another $6-$10 for shipping.

Now to the unboxing.

This month was hand picked by none other than Kevin Smith! Yes, you heard that right Lunchbox, the Kevin Smith! So, you can assume that it will be awesome and have Kevin Smith treasures inside.

Arcade Block is the newest subscription service from Nerd Block. Arcade Block is targeted at gamers and it sold out in record time it’s first month.

Here are the contents of September’s Arcade Block:

I couldn’t wait for this month’s Nerd Block, they kept hinting at products from Guardians of the Galaxy, TMNT, and an STD? Did they just say STD? Yes, that is correct this month Nerd Block gave all of their subscribers a random STD.

Here are the contents of this month’s block:

1. T-shirt: Sounds of the Galaxy (Guardians of the Galaxy)

2. Boxos by FUNKO: TMNT papercraft playset featuring all 4 turtles, Splinter, Shredder, a foot, and even the Shellraiser

3. Mega Bloks: Marvel Series 1 minifigure, blind package (I don't care for MegaBloks, so I am not opening this. LEGO till the end!)

4. Nerd Block 1-year anniversary stress brain (comes in handy at work)

This month was pretty exciting! Next month will be hand picked by none other than Kevin Smith! This should be awesome since he is a huge fan of comic books and Star Wars. I should also see  a new subscription box from Nerd Block this month, Arcade Block. I will write about the contents of that when I receive it. I am also looking forward to this month’s Loot Crate which is themed Galaxy and will contain loot from Star Wars, Star Trek, and Firefly, ArchangelEZE will review that later this month.

Okay I said last month that I wasn’t going to continue my subscription to Nerd Block, but I broke down and signed back up. They were promoting an exclusive Funko POP! figure and I couldn’t resist. Then I also signed my daughter up for Nerd Block Jr. to see how she'd like it. Her box was just okay. Her box had a bunch of trinkety items. Overall I'm not impressed with hers, but I'll give it another month.

This month’s Nerd Block contents:

1 - blind package of Garbage Pail Kids mini figures

1 - Bravest Warrior keychain (never heard of these before)

1 - New Adventures with the Tenth Doctor comic (Nerd Block exclusive cover)

1 - New Adventures with the Eleventh Doctor comic (Nerd Block exclusive cover)

1 - T-shirt: This month’s shirt featured schematics of a Poké Ball.

The product of the month was PX Previews Exclusive POP! figure. You receive 1 of 2 figures: Batman or Harley Quinn. I received the Harley Quinn figure and I can’t wait to add her to the rest of my collection.

I will be continuing my subscription until I receive a box that I don’t like, plus next month will feature an original TMNT collectible. (Excited!) As a bonus, the same day I received my Nerd Block I received my TeeFury shirt I ordered.

Nerd Block - July 2014

Nerd Block, like Loot Crate, is a monthly subscription service featuring geeky plunder. Nerd Block offers 4 different subscription options: Nerd Block Classic, Nerd Block Jr. Boys, Nerd Block Jr. Girls, and Horror Block. Classic is basically Comic-Con in a box plus a t-shirt, the Junior Blocks are geared for boys and girls ages 6-11 (I think pretty cool as an adult too), and the Horror Block is right up every horror fans Elm Street. The Classic and Horror Blocks are $19.99/month + shipping and the Juniors are $13.99/month + shipping.

Personally I think that this subscription isn't worth the $30 (after shipping). I'm excited to receive my Loot Crate for this month and compare it to ArchangelEZE's to see what we received different.
