Captain America: Civil War Teams Possibly Revealed

Next year will bring us the third Captain America movie, with it taking the premise of the 2007 Marvel Comics storyline of Civil War.  In that comic event two teams, lead by Cap and Iron Man, fight over superhero registration.

With Marvel Studios not having the rights to all the characters or not yet introducing others, this will obviously be a different take on the story.  Rumors are now emerging as far as who will be on Team Cap and who's on Team Iron Man.

Team Captain America

So we have Cap, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Ant-Man, Winter Soldier, and Hawkeye. Falcon isn't a surprise here, as well as Ant-Man who was "kind of" recruited by Falcon.  And one of the post-credits scene from Ant-Man shows Cap and Falcon have tracked down Winter Soldier, and it seems they'll have him won over at some point in Civil War.

Team Iron Man

And siding with Iron Man is Black Widow, Vision, Spider-Man, and War Machine. Also rumored is that Captain America has a spy on Iron Man's team, the smart money is on it being Black Widow or War Machine. Black Panther is said to remain neutral for most of the movie but will eventually get pulled in and pick a side.

Captain America: Civil War Begins Production, Full Cast Revealed

Production on Captain America: Civil War  has begun in Atlanta.  The full cast list has been unveiled, and it seems to have more Avengers than Age of Ultron did.

Here's the official synopsis for Civil War;

The cast includes Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Sebastion Stan (Winter Soldier), Scarlet Johansson (Black Widow), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Bettany (Vision), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Emily VanCamp (Agent 33), Frank Grillo (Crossbones), William Hurt (General Ross), Daniel Bruhl (Baron Zemo), and Martin Freeman (who's role is still unknown).  A handful of these are worth noting ...

This movie will mark the introduction for Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. It will also be the first time Paul Rudd will be seen along side the rest of the Avengers after Ant-Man releases later this year. William Hurt will return as General "Thunderbolt" Ross, his only other appearance was 2008's The Incredible Hulk. And lastly, Civil War will introduce Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo.

With a cast this massive, Its surprising this isn't considered an Avengers movie. Rumor still suggests Spider-Man will make an appearance once he's cast, but no news on that for the time being.  And with Hawkeye and Ant-Man finally in the same movie, maybe we'll get this classic scene ....

Martin Freeman Cast In Captain America 3!

As of today Martin Freeman, star of The Hobbit, is cast in Captain America: Civil War.  No word on who he'll be playing yet. So speculate away!

The Captain America sequel is about to begin production and will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. The Russo brothers helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier and will also be directing Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 & 2.

Will Freeman have a Sherlock reunion with Benedict Cumberbatch, who's playing Doctor Strange in his own movie? Or a Hobbit reunion with Andy Serkis, who you saw as Ulysses Klaw in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Neither are confirmed for Civil War, but time will tell.

Avengers: What's Next?

So, if you're like a lot of people, you saw Avengers: Age of Ultron this weekend. But maybe now you're curious about what's next for the team and what that mid-credits scene means exactly. Needless to say, spoilers will be plenty going further if you haven't seen the movie.

THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING.

Still with me? Okay, let's get to it.

Thanos and the Infinty Gauntlet!

If you stayed around through the credits, about midway there was a quick scene with Thanos ( voiced by Josh Brolin ).  He puts on what's known as the "Infinity Gauntlet" and says "Fine, I'll do it myself".

Seems to be the Marvel films' "big bad" is about to get his hands dirty. He was teased in a mid credits scene in the first Avengers movie, showing he was responsible for providing Loki with an army and that sceptor (or glow stick of destiny as Iron Man called it).  Thanos also made a brief appearance in last year's Guardians of the Galaxy, tasking that movie's villain (Ronan) with finding an orb, which ended up holding one of the Infinity Gems. Not familiar with the Infinity Gems? Let me help you with that...

These gems all fit into the Infinity Gauntlet, giving the bearer of the glove essentially limitless power. As you can see on the picture above, two gems are unaccounted for in the Marvel movies. We're sure to see these introduced in next year's Doctor Strange, 2017's Thor: Ragnorak, or Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 in 2018.

So there's a quick rundown of the Infinity Gauntlet and Thanos. Until more details are officially announced or revealed in future movies, anything more would be strictly speculation.

Now onto the new line up of the Avengers at the end of the movie and next year's Captain America: Civil War.

New Avengers and Civil War!

The final scene before the credits rolled showed a new team going forward. Captain America and Black Widow will need some help with 4 Avengers bowing out at the end of the movie. Tony Stark takes a leave of absence, Hawkeye takes off to be a dad, Thor returns to Asgard, and Hulk goes into hiding.  So now we got a new line up.

Heading up the team is Captain America, with Black Widow seeming to serve as his right hand woman. War Machine (from the Iron Man movies) and Falcon (introduced in last year's Captain America: Civil War) finally get promoted to the big leagues. As well as Scarlet Witch and Vision who both made their debut in Age of Ultron.

Who knows how long this line up will remain. Next year, heroes will be facing off against one another in Captain America: Civil War. And we'll be introduced to several other Avengers in the next few years; Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, and some guy named Spider-Man. Also, don't rule out veteran Avengers like Iron Man or Hawkeye getting called back into the ring at any time.

Avengers Potpourri

A few random notes to close this out ...

Did you catch Sam "Falcon" Wilson's mention of a "missing person case"? No doubt a nod to Cap and Falcon looking for Bucky/Winter Soldier. Marvel hasn't forgotten about him, and he's confirmed to be in Civil War next year.

And we can't finish without mention of Pietro "Quicksilver" Maximoff. We hardly knew thee.

It seems odd for Marvel to kill off such a classic Avenger in the same movie he's introduced in. But perhaps they felt they needed to tell audiences that Avengers CAN DIE. No doubt Avengers director Joss Whedon will get a lot of flack for Pietro's early demise. But the truth is, Marvel wouldn't allow it if they weren't OK it, or maybe they even suggested it. And if you're one for speculating...could Quicksilver be resurrected via the Infinity Gauntlet? Or through any other means? It would be a very "comic book" thing to do.

Until next time, True Believers ....

Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

NGP Review : Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

The Marvel Collector Corps has finally launched, and we here at New Geek Protocol have our hands on the very first box featuring none other than Earth’s Mightiest, the Avengers! Back in February, we broke the news that Marvel and Funko had teamed up to bring us, the fans, 100% completely exclusive collectibles t-shirts and accessories valued at over $50 through a bi-monthly shipping service and they did not disappoint!

When my box arrived, there was no hiding the excitement for what was in store. A Golden Age Captain America graded the top of the box with Avengers and Marvel markings screaming around the outer edges. The inside flap contained great moments in Marvel Comics history, which features the likes of The Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Black Widow and more!

Upon opening the top flap, the first two pieces of swag greeted me in the form of a Marvel Collector’s Corps Ultron patch and Captain America pin.

NGP Review : Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

Lifting the inner flap where the patch and pin were positioned, the Exclusive Hulkbuster Pop! Vinyl figure was displayed, and this thing is HUGE. Standing at a whopping 6” (compared to the standard 3 ¾” figured) this beauty is sure to be a “must have” for any Iron Man fan!

NGP Review : Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

Nestled to the right-hand side of the Hulkbuster, was an Avengers : Age of Ultron Dorbz Vinyl figure featuring the iconic villain himself!

NGP Review : Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

With the vinyl figures (gently!) removed from the box, an exclusive Variant Edition of Guardians Team-Up #1 was tucked underneath …

NGP Review : Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

Alongside One of Four unique Avengers vs. Ultron T-shirts to round out the box! My randomly selected shirt featured Thor, but Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk variations have also been received by other Corps members!

33 Marvel Titles Come To An End

33 Marvel Titles Come To An End

It's true ... the master list has been established. On the cusp of Secret Wars Marvel has revealed that 33 titles will be coming to an end this May and some of these are pretty heavy hitters.

Speaking with ComicBook.Com, Marvel's David Gabriel revealed the ongoing title casualty list for the first ever reboot in Marvel history.

"Secret Wars is unlike any event ever published. It’s not just an event with a few tie-ins, it’s an entirely new publishing line, an entirely new television network’s fall line-up if you will. It’s not unlike what was done in the 1990s with Age of Apocalypse. Even then, that was just the X-Men titles. But this is so much more. The entire Marvel Universe will be affected in some really shocking, really surprising ways."

It's important to note that Gabriel has also revealed that some titles will be rebooted in the aftermath of Secret Wars, but others will be gone for good.

So without further ado, revise your pull-lists accordingly. Here are the titles that will be reaching their 616 Finale over the next few months:

  • All-New Captain America
  • All-New Ghost Rider
  • All-New X-Men
  • Amazing Spider-Man
  • Amazing X-Men
  • Angela: Asgard’s Assassin
  • Avengers
  • Avengers World
  • Captain Marvel
  • Cyclops
  • Deadpool
  • Elektra
  • Fantastic Four
  • Guardians 3000
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Hulk
  • Inhuman
  • Iron Fist: The Living Weapon
  • Legendary Star-Lord
  • Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man
  • New Avengers
  • Nightcrawler
  • Nova

Miles Morales May Be Our Cinematic Spider-Man

Miles Morales May Be Our Cinematic Spider-Man

Miles Morales May Be Our Cinematic Spider-Man

If the rumors are true, there’s a 95% chance that we won’t be seeing Peter Parker filling the shoes of ‘ol web-head come Captain America : Civil War in 2016. At least, not as the headliner. The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider recently commented on his Meet the Movie Press podcast that :

"This is not set in stone guys, but I’m telling you right now: Spider-Man is not going to be white."

The main speculation for this reasoning? SONY has the opportunity to beat Marvel to the punch utilizing an ethnic character in a standalone film, prior to the release of Black Panther.

From the standpoint of a die-hard comic book fan, Miles Morales is the real deal. Debuting as the Ultimate Spider-Man in 2011 following the death of Peter Parker (in the Ultimate Universe continuum), the character proved to be a HUGE success thanks to the writing talents of Brian Michael Bendis, and currently stands as the last remaining title under the Ultimate banner pre-Secret Wars.

Miles Morales May Be Our Cinematic Spider-Man

The current cinematic Avengers look and feel is heavily influenced by the Ultimate Universe (i.e. Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver) and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Marvel decided to go the Miles Morales route and re-brand the character. Speculation could also conclude (and isn't out of the question)  that Peter Parker may fall during the events of Captain America : Civil War, leaving Miles to assume the role. Again, this is all rumor and speculation, but the wheels are definitely in motion for the fate of Spider-Man.

Trailer Breakdown: Avengers Age of Ultron

Trailer Breakdown: Avengers Age of Ultron

None of your secrets are really secret. Especially the ones that end up online in a tweet, Facebook post, Snapchat session, or drunken Vine you make with your friends.  It seems to be a trend lately to have your life personally invaded by some sort of cyber criminal in which the media will brand it with some cliche [insert cyber crime]-gate title. Well it seems that no one is immune as the very first trailer for Avengers Age of Ultron (which Marvel was planning on debuting with Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Monday) has been leaked online. Marvel, being the awesome geniuses they are, decided to play along with a expertly targeted "Dammit, Hydra." tweet and then immediately releasing the trailer on their website.

It's unfortunate that it was leaked but Marvel knows how to roll with the punches and now the only talk is about how massively epic the trailer itself is. So that is exactly what I'm going to cover. Here is my breakdown of that trailer.

00:30 - This seems to be Bruce Banner in some sort of straitjacket looking incredibly terrified. This is really haunting considering he is the damn Hulk and he looks so terrified.

00:33 - Here we get our first look at Ultron in one of his first forms calling all the Avengers puppets. It appears as if he has taken control of one of Stark's Iron Man suits (possibly one that was damaged in the Mandarin attack on his mansion in Iron Man 2)

00:50 - Captain America kicks in a door inside a facility that looks very Hydra-ish. This might very well be where Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are discovered. We already know from the ending of Captain America Winter Soldier that they are both being held in a Hydra facility.

1:03 - However, in this scene we see both Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver with Ultron so it is quite possible that they start off as characters who need their eyes open to his true villainy.

1:05 - This looks to be Ultron minions in and all out attack on Stark's mansion. They very well could be suits that went down in the Mandarin attack that are now rising up from the sea under control of Ultron.

1:08 - Here we see the Avengers looking very defeated and to underline that sentiment Thor drops his hammer as if what he is witnessing is so insurmountable. The overall theme from this trailer is that the Avengers are going to be challenged in a way they never have and they may not come out of it unscathed. Very dark stuff.

1:12 - Tony Stark is standing over what looks like a failed suit experiment. There have been a lot of rumors about how Marvel will approach the origin of Ultron and it sounds to me like he is created in the wake of Stark upgrading J.A.R.V.I.S. Ultron becomes self-aware and separates himself from J.A.R.V.I.S. and they become two different characters. Vision becoming the embodiment of the J.A.R.V.I.S. system.

1:25 - One suit that doesn't look like a failure is the Hulkbuster armor which we see here and a couple other spots in the trailer. This to me is the highlight of this trailer is all the Iron Man vs. Hulk stuff we see. My guess is that somehow Bruce/Hulk is unleashed or even controlled by Ultron and has to be subdued by the Avengers and that is how we get that scene at 00:30

1:28 - Brief glimpses are show here with both Quicksilver and then Scarlet Witch in action. In the original comics in which these characters appear they are mutants and their powers are mutant abilities. However with the movie rights to X-Men and anything mutant in the hands of 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios has to come up with something different. The only thing that's been on-screen to describe then has been "miracles" so it will be interesting to see their stories fleshed out

1:40 - There seems to be trouble in paradise in this scene of the trailers with Thor throttling Stark. This is possibly alluding to the breakup of the team which many sources have been saying that the next Avengers movie will feature a new fragmented line up.

1:53 - Captain America's demise has been discussed heavily in the upcoming Captain America 3 and this may hint that it may come even before that as we see his (seemingly indestructible) shield broken. It is common knowledge that Steve Rodgers dies in the comics at some point and it may take place on the big screen as well. I could easily see Bucky/Winter Soldier taking over or even Falcon who now holds the title in the newest Marvel comic line.

1:55 - Ulton makes a proper introduction at the tail end of the trailer showing off his new bad-ass form. "...but now I'm free. There are no strings on me."

So now that the trailer is out on the interwebs what do you think about it? Are you excited for the new iteration of the Avengers or are you in that category of people who just want to watch the world burn? Sound off in the comments below!

Age of Ultron: Official Plot Details

We have all been wondering about it and yesterday Disney revealed the plot synopsis for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

“Marvel Studios presents ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.
Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series ‘The Avengers,’ first published in 1963. Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Patricia Whitcher, Stan Lee and Jon Favreau serve as executive producers. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ on May 1, 2015.”
Age of Ultron will wrap up the Phase 2 installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What do you hope to see in the movie? Who’s excited to see Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver? Who do you think will pay the ultimate price? Leave your theories in the comments below.
