Fantastic Four/X-Men Crossover Being Shelved?

Up until this weekend, all indications pointed to 20th Century Fox setting up their own shared Marvel movie universe with X-Men and Fantastic Four.  With Fantastic Four being a certified bomb for Fox, they seem to be backing away from that plan. 

Bryan Singer(director of all good X-Men movies) has said previously that there was definite plans to bring Fantastic Four and X-Men together. Now producers Simon Kinberg and Hutch Parker are putting distance between Fantastic Four and their successful projects. Kinberg and Parker are now saying the two teams exist in alternate universes. A photo shoot with Entertainment Weekly had cast members from X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and Gambit; teasing a shared universe that doesn't seem to be happening anymore. 

Fantastic Four being a failure for Fox shouldn't be a huge surprise since they hid the movie from critics until the day before its release.  Director Josh Trank even distanced himself from the movie with a tweet that was quickly deleted. His tweet furthers rumors in the film industry that Fox producers have an ugly history tampering with the movies instead of trusting the directors they hire. 

Where the future of Fantastic Four lies could be anyone's guess. Fox could move forward with the sequel they already scheduled for 2017.  They could give the rights back to Marvel Studios. Or maybe strike a deal similar to what Sony made with Marvel (for all things Spider-Man) to work together.

New Images from X-Men: Apocalypse

A slew of new images from X-Men: Apocalypse have emerged, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.  Several of the shots give us our first look at new mutants Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) and Psylocke (Olivia Munn) , as well as the new Storm (Alexandra Shipp).

Psylocke's look seems to be pretty loyal to her appearance in the comic books.  

Last weekend it was confirmed who would be Apocalypse's four horsemen. The honor of serving him goes to Angel (or Archangel), Psylocke, Storm, and Magneto.  

These two pictures seem to suggest Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) is back fighting alongside the X-Men.

FOX Developing New Mutants Movie

News is breaking that FOX ( who have brought us all the X-Men movies so far) have closed a deal to make a new spin off focusing on the New Mutants.  They've also hired director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) to helm the project. 

New Mutants was a comic book spin off of the X-Men first debuting in 1982. Members have included Magik, Warpath, Sunspot, Warlock, and Canonball. Warpath and Sunspot both appeared in the "future scenes" of X-Men: Days of Future Past. No word on whether those actors will be carried over to this movie.

First Look At Nightcrawler

Blowing up the Internet today is the first official look at Nightcrawler from next year's X-Men: Apocalypse. 

Kurt "Nightcrawler" Wagner will be played by Kodi Smit-McPhee. Previously only seen in the films in X2: X-Men United, Nightcrawler was then played by Alan Cumming.

33 Marvel Titles Come To An End

33 Marvel Titles Come To An End

It's true ... the master list has been established. On the cusp of Secret Wars Marvel has revealed that 33 titles will be coming to an end this May and some of these are pretty heavy hitters. 

Speaking with ComicBook.Com, Marvel's David Gabriel revealed the ongoing title casualty list for the first ever reboot in Marvel history. 

"Secret Wars is unlike any event ever published. It’s not just an event with a few tie-ins, it’s an entirely new publishing line, an entirely new television network’s fall line-up if you will. It’s not unlike what was done in the 1990s with Age of Apocalypse. Even then, that was just the X-Men titles. But this is so much more. The entire Marvel Universe will be affected in some really shocking, really surprising ways."

It's important to note that Gabriel has also revealed that some titles will be rebooted in the aftermath of Secret Wars, but others will be gone for good. 

So without further ado, revise your pull-lists accordingly. Here are the titles that will be reaching their 616 Finale over the next few months:

How Much Wolverine Do We Need? Apparently A Lot.

Earlier today,  The Wolverine director James Mangold responded to a tweet asking when Wolverine 3 will begin production. Based on the already announced release date for 2017, it's not a huge surprise when Mangold said they'll begin in early 2016.  

Already reported for the next Wolverine film, is that it will bring back Patrick Stewart as Professor X.  Nothing else has been revealed about the movie, including plot. Hugh Jackman is also slated to be in next year's X-Men: Apocalypse, as well as being rumored for cameos in the Deadpool and Gambit movies. 

So, who else is wondering when Fox will stop using Wolverine as a crutch? He's been the main character of 4 X-Men movies as well as 2 solo Wolverine movies. If Fox really wants to expand their X-Men cinematic universe to rival Marvel's Avengers, shouldn't they expand their focus beyond Hugh Jackman?

Sure, we are getting Deadpool and Gambit movies, but it took A LOT of fan support and outcry to get those. And maybe those films will be big enough hits to convince Fox to broaden their focus. But nothing is certain when it comes to Hollywood.  Perhaps with films starring Ryan Reynolds ( Deadpool ) and Channing Tatum ( Gambit ) Fox can be convinced to take more chances.

Fox holds the rights to a plethora of fascinating characters.  They just need to get some creative talent and some smart casting to make some cinematic magic. Let's not forget, before 2008 Iron Man was hardly a household name. And we all know how that has changed.

Nightcrawler Is In, Colossus Is Out

Last night it was announced that actor Kodi Smit-McPhee ( The Road, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ) has been casted as a young Nightcrawler in next year's X-Men: Apocalypse.  Previously, Nightcrawler was portrayed by Alan Cumming in 2003's X2.

In other big screen mutant news, Daniel Cudmore won't be returning as Colossus for the Deadpool movie. It's still only a rumor the movie will include that character, but Cudmore confirmed via twitter he won't be involved. Cudmore had played Colossus in three X-Men movies since 2003.

It's a Deadpool Movie News Round-up!

The Deadpool movie has had some developments and teases recently and it's all been gathered right here for your convenience. 

First, it was announced yesterday that Gina Carano ( Fast & Furious 6, Haywire ) is joining the movie. She'll be playing Angel Dust, a member of the Morlocks. 

Also, Ryan Reynolds tweeted a tease of the Deadpool costume, which you can see here ...

And finally, two unconfirmed rumors. TJ Milller is rumored to be joining the project, likely as the character Weasel. And according to supposed script leaks, the movie will include Colossus of the X-men, who's been portrayed by Daniel Cudmore since X-men: The Last Stand. No word on whether he'd be asked to return to the role, but the actor did say on twitter that he can't comment.

The Weekly Pull : Spider-Man & The X-Men #1

After a lengthy holiday season hiatus, the Weekly Pull is back in full swing this week as we take a look into Emmy Award winning writer, Elliot Kalan from The Daily Show and artist Marco Failla’s first venture into the team-up we’ll most likely never see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe : Spider-Man and The X-Men #1.

Prior to the Death of Wolverine this past September, this book was originally marketed as Wolverine and The X-Men for two complete volumes. Stemming from the events of Schism and AvX, the X-franchise was changed forever as a line was drawn pitting X-man vs. X-man with Wolverine taking the stance that the students of Westchester should remain students and not soldiers, while Cyclops believed that training students to be soldiers was crucial to the survival of the mutant race.

For years, the relationship between Wolverine and Spider-Man has been depicted as classic "odd couple," the quiet killer and the boisterous savior, if you will. As Avengers team-mates under the tenure of Brian Michael Bendis, the deep roots in honor and responsibility brought the pair closer than ever before, making the choice to have Spider-Man carry the torch a welcome twist. Kalan does an exceptional job nailing the wit and classic Parker banter right off the bat, while impressively managing to land clever cinematic references in the dialogue. Deep cuts and Easter eggs for early Uncanny X-Men and Amazing Spider-Man fans are also present in the opening act, ranging from 1960s villains to fan favorite locales including Unus the Untouchable and The Savage Land.

There are a lot of great twists in this first issue alone, generating a huge step in the right direction for Marvel, mixing the best of classic team-ups with the story arcs and scenarios taking place in current continuum. In my opinion, this one has everything a great comic book should, and is a must buy for any Spider-Man or X-Men fan. You won't be disappointed.

The Weekly Pull : Inversion

Earlier this month, I introduced the first book of Marvel Comics latest epic, Axis - Book One : The Red Supremacy. This week, book two of the three part event came to a close, and things in the Marvel U have started taking a turn (hence the Axis - get it?!) in the latest installment, Axis - Book Two : Inversion.  

Picking up immediately after the battle with the Red Onslaught on the island of Genosha, we find our heros back at Avengers tower arguing over the fate of Red Skull. However, something is off ... The All-New Captain America (Sam Wilson, aka Falcon) is making death threats, Thor has lost his humanity and Tony Stark wants nothing more than to drink these troubles away.

Across town, stranger events begin to unfold. Spider-Man responds to a robbery only to find that the criminal has already been apprehended by his most unlikely adversary, Carnage, while in Larveria, Doctor Doom make a speech to his subjects announcing their freedom from oppression.

However, the icing on the cake is the introduction of KLUH, the Hulk's Hulk, and as Nova quickly realizes, you wouldn't like him when he's sad.

The telepathic powers of the Red Onslaught combined against the sorcery of the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom have spawned a reaction in those present at the battle of Genosha and have the Marvel U turned on it's Axis, where our heroes are villains and our villains are heroes. A big change is coming, and next month we'll see how it all unfolds in the final chapter, Axis - Book Three : New World Order.

The Weekly Pull - The Last Will And Testament Of Charles Xavier

In the Fall of 2012, X-men founder Charles Xavier (Professor X) met his demise during the events of AvX at the hands of his first and former student Scott Summers (Cyclops). Possessed by the Phoenix Force alongside teammates, Emma Frost, Magik, Namor and Colossus the one time heroes would dramatically change the fifty year old franchise like never before.

Xavier's death resulted in widespread chaos across the Marvel Universe. A rift in team loyalties relaunched, spawned and altered various titles including Uncanny Avengers and Wolverine and the X-Men. However, the most prominent titles came at the hands of former Daredevil and Avengers scribe, Brian Michael Bendis, with flagship books Uncanny X-Men and All-New X-Men spinning directly out of the pages of AvX.

The Uncanny title followed the new violent and somewhat villainous course of Scott Summers and his Extinction Team in their attempt to promote the mutant rights agenda and establish a new school for gifted youngsters, controversially named ‘The New Charles Xavier School for the Gifted’. As a direct parallel, the opposing faction consisting of long time X-members Wolverine, Storm, Beast and Iceman found a home within the pages of the All-New title, where an act of desperation by Hank McCoy would forever change the future of the franchise by pulling the original five X-Men (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Angel & Beast) through space and time to the present day in an attempt to teach the younger versions of themselves what the future holds if continued on their current path.

As time goes on, in the Summer of 2014 we are taken to the law offices of Jennifer Walters (aka She-Hulk) when she receives a mysterious parcel, which brings her to the home of the All-New X-Men, The Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, to address the senior staff. Upon her arrival, the announcement is made that Walters has in her possession the Last Will and Testament of Charles Xavier but drops a bombshell that the information cannot be released until everyone named in the Will is present, which includes Scott Summers. Putting their differences briefly aside, the former students of Xavier gather to hear the stunning news ...

"I Charles Francis Xavier, of the town of Salem Center, County of Westchester, and State of New York, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make, publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all Wills and Codicils previously made by me. I declare that I am married as of the date of this Will and that my wife's name is Raven Darkhölme (Mystique)."

Wait ... WHAT?!?
