Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

NGP Review : Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

Marvel Collector Corps - Box 1 : Avengers

The Marvel Collector Corps has finally launched, and we here at New Geek Protocol have our hands on the very first box featuring none other than Earth’s Mightiest, the Avengers! Back in February, we broke the news that Marvel and Funko had teamed up to bring us, the fans, 100% completely exclusive collectibles t-shirts and accessories valued at over $50 through a bi-monthly shipping service and they did not disappoint!

When my box arrived, there was no hiding the excitement for what was in store. A Golden Age Captain America graded the top of the box with Avengers and Marvel markings screaming around the outer edges. The inside flap contained great moments in Marvel Comics history, which features the likes of The Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Black Widow and more!

Upon opening the top flap, the first two pieces of swag greeted me in the form of a Marvel Collector’s Corps Ultron patch and Captain America pin.

Lifting the inner flap where the patch and pin were positioned, the Exclusive Hulkbuster Pop! Vinyl figure was displayed, and this thing is HUGE. Standing at a whopping 6” (compared to the standard 3 ¾” figured) this beauty is sure to be a “must have” for any Iron Man fan!

Nestled to the right-hand side of the Hulkbuster, was an Avengers : Age of Ultron Dorbz Vinyl figure featuring the iconic villain himself!

With the vinyl figures (gently!) removed from the box, an exclusive Variant Edition of Guardians Team-Up #1 was tucked underneath …

Alongside One of Four unique Avengers vs. Ultron T-shirts to round out the box! My randomly selected shirt featured Thor, but Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk variations have also been received by other Corps members!

Overall, I’m quite pleased with the items that arrived in the Marvel Collector Corps Launch Box, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for June when Ant-Man takes the reigns as the theme for Box 2! To sign-up for the Marvel Collector Corps, visit www.collectorcorps.com today!

Daredevil Back For A Second Season!

Daredevil has been officially renewed for a second season! Originally, Marvel had only planned single seasons for the their Netflix shows before the Defenders team up miniseries. With Daredevil being such a huge success, it's no surprise they've altered their plan. The second season will debut next year exclusive to Netflix, obviously.

Later this year will see the introduction of Jessica Jones in her own series as well as Luke Cage and Iron Fist later on down the line.

The second season will have new show runners, Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez. Both were writers and heavily involved for Daredevil's first season.

This story is just breaking. Stay tuned for more details.

Ms. Marvel Miniseries!

Rumor has it that Marvel and ABC are developing a Ms. Marvel miniseries to air next year while Agents of Shield is on its winter hiatus.

The show would be produced by John Ridley, who currently produces the show American Crime. He also won a Best Screenplay Oscar for 12 Years A Slave.

The current Ms. Marvel  (Kamala Khan) is Marvel's first Muslim character to headline her own comic series. Her abilities include shapeshifting and a healing factor.

Nothing has been confirmed, but stay tuned for any updates!

NGP Review : A New Dawn

NGP Review : A New Dawn

NGP Review : A New Dawn

In the wake of this weeks debut of the new trailer for The Force Awakens, I have completed my first journey into the newly pointed Star Wars Canon novels with A New Dawn. Although I'm a bit late to the party, with the novel releasing in September of 2014, I've made it a point to catch up and maintain speed now that the possibility of keeping up with continuity is within reach.

A New Dawn is the first novel published as part of the new canon, and with it brings the story of how Rebels Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla first cross paths and together alongside a Sullustan splicer, Zaluna, and a human Clone Wars veteran, Skelly, spark a Rebellion when the Empire threatens to destroy their way of life.

Taking place on the planet Gorse, and it's thorilide rich moon, Cynda, eight years after the birth of the Empire, Count Denetrius Vidian acting in his own interests, attempts to blow up Cynda in order to maximize his short-term thorilide yields to maintain the favor of Emperor Palpatine. Why thorilide, you ask? It just so happens to be a vital resource in the construction of Imperial Star Destroyer turbolaser batteries.

NGP Review : A New Dawn

Straight out the gate, A New Dawn is a great starting point for the new era of Star Wars novels. However, if you're looking for epic lightsaber duels and exhilarating starship battles you won't find it here. Although Kanan is a Jedi, it's important to remember that his place in the galaxy at this point in history is nothing more than a drifter - forced to conceal his identity and force sensitivity as one of the lone survivors of Order 66. That may sound like a buzzkill, but don't let that deter you. The story still has plenty to offer, as we are introduced to a great cast of new and interesting supporting characters (some of whom may just appear in the Star Wars : Rebels TV series) and plenty of action to keep things exciting and on pace.

NGP Review : A New Dawn

Additionally, the beauty of A New Dawn being canon is that everything fits together. From the Rebels TV series to the newly launched Kanan : The Last Padawan comic series, bits and pieces fall into place and connect through every medium helping to expand and amplify the story.

NGP Review : A New Dawn
3/5 Toast Rating

I can't wait to get started on the next adventure, as I dive head first into the history and rise to power of one of the Empire's most notorious agents, Wilhuff Tarkin.

And for those of you who may have  missed it, behold the beauty of what's to come this Christmas in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens!

Guitar Hero Is Back

Guitar Hero Is Back

Its been almost 5 years now since the last Guitar Hero game has come out. The market at that time was massively proliferated with music games, like Rock Band, that not only did what Guitar Hero did but did it better or changed up the game entirely. Because of the enormous selection and the almost annual release of these games customer interest wore thin and the war that was Guitar Hero vs Rock Band died.

Jump to 2015 and the war has started up again.  Time has passed and now the demand for another music focused game has swelled. Now both Rock Band 4 and Guitar Hero Live have been announced. Not a lot of information has been released regarding Rock Band 4 but Activision has come out of the gate swinging with copious details about what Guitar Hero Live is and why you'll want to play it.

Change is a big reason why gamers always came back to music games. Whether it was to play a new song from a band you really love or to try out a new instrument or controller that came out for the game. The new Guitar Hero has changed a few things up and I think they are for the better. The biggest change by far is the new guitar controller. Instead of having the five key in-line fret buttons they have switched it up to two rows of three keys stacked on top of each other at the top of the fret. Fans of Guitar Hero are now going to have to completely re-learn how to play the game. It sounds bad but it's actually not. I remember picking up Guitar Hero for the first time when it came to PS2 and playing it for hours on end learning all the songs. That was part of what made the Guitar Hero experience so awesome was learning how to play and now we'll get to do that all over again.

The other huge thing that the game is doing differently is completely ditching the cartoonish look of the previous games. Instead it will be trying to do as the title implies and make you feel like you are actually live on stage with a real band. That includes a new first person perspective from the point of view of the band's lead guitarist. What you are looking at in-game is actual live footage as well. Activision painstakingly shot hours of footage of not only the bands playing but the audience members as well. They will react dynamically as well to how you are playing. Miss a lot of notes in a row and they will start booing and yelling but get back on a roll and they will start cheering and yelling "I love you!" It isn't really any different than the concepts of previous games it's the fact that they are actual people that makes it so much more immersive. Just check out the new trailer below and you'll know.

Guitar Hero Live is aiming for a fall 2015 release. Hit up the comments with what songs you want to be in the game.

Olivia Munn Cast As Psylocke!

The cast of X-Men: Apocalypse gets bigger and bigger. Director Bryan Singer announced via his Instagram account that Olivia Munn will play Betsy "Psylocke" Braddock in the next installment of X-Men.

Olivia Munn first came to fame as a host on the G4 channel, and has since moved on to acting in television and movies (The Newsroom , Magic Mike). Mei Melancon played Psylocke in a very limited role in X-Men: The Last Stand.

X-Men Apoclaypse hits theaters in May 2016

Archangel In X-Men: Apocalypse!

Director Bryan Singer has confirmed Ben Hardy is playing Angel in the next X-Men movie. Singer confirmed the casting via Empire Magazine and released the picture below on his Instagram account.

Seems to be Apocalypse will have at least one of his horsemen, following a classic storyline from the comics. Angel went under quite the transformation when Apocalypse brings him the dark side.

Angel was last on the big screen in X-Men: The Last Stand, played by Ben Foster.  X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters in May 2016.

The Weekly Pull : Star Wars - Kanan : The Last Padawan

The Weekly Pull : Star Wars - Kanan : The Last Padawan

The Weekly Pull : Star Wars - Kanan : The Last Padawan

Kanan : The Last Padawan is the fourth Star Wars title released by Marvel Comics in conjunction with Disney/Lucasfilm, chronicling the history of Kanan Jarrus from Star Wars: Rebels and the story of his survival as a young padawan in the Clone Wars during the fall of the Republic, when Chancellor Palpatine gave Order 66 - wiping out the Jedi Order.

The Weekly Pull : Star Wars - Kanan : The Last Padawan

Taking place snugly in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and the first novel in the New Star Wars Canon(link), A New Dawn, Kanan’s story begins on the battleground during the last days of the war in the battle of Kaller, where he and his master, Depa Billaba find themselves and their clone army pitted against Separatist forces.

Successful in their endeavor, the young apprentice and his master move to rest in the fields under the stars with the remainder of their Clone battalion, where Kanan is given a holocron by his mentor in which to “study the role of questions” and “peaceful dissent” of the Jedi Order just as a fateful command is issued to the Clone army …

The Weekly Pull : Star Wars - Kanan : The Last Padawan

Currently in the midst of A New Dawn myself (Chapter 20, to be exact), there are already bits and pieces, character reveals and revelations occurring just within this single issue that tie into both the novel and TV series in such an intricate way that was never achieved under the Legends Expanded Universe.

With that being said, for those unfamiliar or not up-to-date on previously aired or released content, there are some major spoilers present in the book.

The Weekly Pull : Star Wars - Kanan : The Last Padawan

Although not the strongest Star Wars comic title on the shelves (that honor goes to Jason Aaron and John Cassaday’s flagship book) Kanan : The Last Padawan is no pushover and is a great addition to the line-up.

If you are anyway interested or invested in these characters, I truly believe there has never been a better time or jumping on point for a Star Wars fan.

4/5 Toast Rating
As of 4/3/15, Kanan : The Last Padawan has sold out of its first print run at Diamond Comic Distributors and has gone to a second printing. If you can secure yourself a first edition, don't hesitate to pick it up!
