Shark Week, Ooo ha ha!

I have never quite understood the hype over Shark Week, why do sharks need a week? Someone must have done something right over at The Discovery Channel though because Shark Week is longest running cable television event in history. Shark Week is in its 26th year, debuting on July 17,1988 and is now broadcasted in over 72 countries.

In honor of Shark Week I am going to provide you not only a list of some of the more popular movies with sharks but also a list of some interesting shark movies.

Obviously the Jaws series is at the top of the popularity list among the latest cult classics Sharknado (available on Netflix Streaming) and Sharknado 2. There is also Deep Blue Sea and Open Water on the popular side. And for the more ridiculous titles out there: Mega Shark v. Mecha Shark (available on Netflix streaming), Jersey Shore Shark Attack, and wait for it … Sharktopus. Let's not forget about the family friendly shark movies too: Shark Tale, Soul Surfer, and Finding Nemo ("fish are friends not food"). There are many more shark features out there, a small list can be found here: http://www.omgsharks.com/shark-movies/index.htm

I won’t be watching any of the documentaries that The Discovery Channel has to offer this week, but I may just unplug my brain and watch  Sharknado to see what it’s all about.

Oh and flashback, what ever happened to that awesome 90s cartoon, Street Sharks?
Jawesome!

Here’s the trailer for Sharknado:

  1. My wife watched Sharknado and was disappointed in that it was not as ridiculous as she had hoped. On a brighter note, she started watching Sharknado 2 and said it was more impressive... on the ridiculous side. :)

    P.S. "I'm H2O intolerant" .... love that movie!!!
